Celebrating a “Catholic family in Downing Street”

When Tony and Cheri Blair moved into Downing Street following Labour’s 1997 general election victory, leaders of the Catholic community expressed their delight that a “Catholic family had moved into Downing Street”.

Similar expressions emerged when Joe Biden was recently elected President of the United States and was positioned as a “Catholic in the White House”.

Where are those voices now that Carrie Symonds and Boris Johnson have married in the Catholic Cathedral of Westminster?

The silence is deafening.

Let’s just hope it’s third time lucky for Boris and that the couple are happy and fulfilled in their now liturgically-cemented relationship.
