Former health minister and former president of the BMA join senior healthcare providers in Whitehouse webinar on NHS reform

Medicine and Moonshots: How will the government change the NHS? webinar at 10am (BST), 11th August 2020, chaired by Baroness Finlay of Llandaff and featuring Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, Dr Vivienne McVey and David Hare.

A New Labour health minister and a former president of the British Medical Association will join the CEO of Virgin Care and the CEO of the Independent Healthcare Providers Network in the latest in Whitehouse’s free webinar series to pinpoint how the government can successfully transform the NHS following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baroness Finlay of Llandaff and the Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Kings Heath will discuss the proposed healthcare changes with the CEO of Virgin Care, Dr Vivienne McVey, and the CEO of the Independent Healthcare Providers Network, David Hare in Medicine and Moonshots: How Will the Government Change the NHS?

The reforms, trailed by Health Secretary Matt Hancock in his speech at the Royal College of Physicians last week, will attempt to rail back on the wide-spread structural transformation of the Health and Social Care Act of 2012 and future proof the NHS to deal with pandemics and increasing pressures of the aging population.

The discussion will take place next Tuesday the 11th of August at 10am via Zoom and will feature:

  • Baroness Finlay of Llandaff (Chair) – former president of the British Medical Association, Royal Society of Medicine and a professor of palliative care
  • Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Kings Heath – Lord Hunt served as a junior minister at the Department for Health (1999-2003) and later as a Minister of State (2007) and was also the first chief executive of the NHS Confederation, Director of the National Association of Health Authorities and Trusts and subsequently Chair of the Heart of England NHS Trust
  • Dr Vivienne McVey – CEO and a founder of Virgin Care
  • David Hare – CEO of the Independent Healthcare Providers Network
  • Chris Whitehouse – Chairman of The Whitehouse Consultancy, the LIFT Council and the Urology Trade Association

The panel will discuss where the balance should be between national and local accountability, which parts of the NHS are most urgently in need of reform and which should be protected, and what temporary changes made to deal with the COVID-19 crisis should become permanent.
