Cameron’s Conservatives did quite well in both the local government and European elections considering the forces ranged against them. The Lib Dems are in meltdown, Labour is in serious disarray at the top, the Ukip leadership is triumphalist but has no idea whether it has built this victory on rock or on sand. As an active Conservative, I feel better today about the party’s prospects for May 2015 than I have for many months!
