A new chapter for Whitehouse: catching up with our new MD, Max Wilson

Ifย youโ€™veย worked with us over the last few years, youย almost certainlyย know Max Wilson.ย Heโ€™sย been a central part of the Whitehouse family, driving our growth and helping our clients navigate some truly complex political landscapes.ย

Thatโ€™sย why we are absolutely thrilled to share the news:ย Max has officially been promoted to Managing Director.ย

To mark the occasion, we grabbed a coffee with Max to talk about his journey from political campaigning to agency leadership, and whatย heโ€™sย most excited about for the future of Whitehouse.

ย

In conversation with Max

Q: Max, huge congratulations! How does it feel toย step into the roleย as Managing Director?ย

Max: Itโ€™sย aย hugeย privilege.ย Iโ€™veย loved my time here so far, mostly because of the people I get to work with every day. We have such a talented team, and stepping into this role isย really aboutย empowering them to keep doing what they do best.ย Iโ€™mย excited to build on the momentum we

ย already have as we move towards the next stage of the agencyโ€™s development.ย

ย

Q: For those who might only know you from your current work, can you give us the โ€œabridged versionโ€ of your career before Whitehouse?ย

Max:ย Itโ€™sย been a bit of a journey! My roots areย definitely political. Before joining the agency world, I spent over five years working deep inside the Labour Party. I wore a few different hats there โ€“ย from leading campaigns for the Parliamentary Labour Partyโ€™s Political Services Unit

ย to working as a Political Adviser in the Leader of the Oppositionโ€™s Office.ย

I also spent time on the other side of the fence as Head of Communications for theย Back Heathrowย campaign,ย managing media and political engagement for the third runway debate. Oh, and occasionally you might spot me popping up on Sky News or the BBC trying to make sense of the dayโ€™sย politicalย headlines!ย

ย

Q: How would you describe what Whitehouse Communications does to someone outside the industry?ย

Max:ย At our core, we help organisationsย that want to make a positiveย change. Whetherย itโ€™sย raising awareness of an issueย in Westminster,ย securingย a regulatory shift in Brussels,ย or launching aย campaignย that is going to make a real difference, we help clientsย makeย a positive impact.ย ย

Weย are anย issues-ledย agencyย whichย means weย digย right downย into the substance of policyย โ€“ย whetherย thatโ€™sย in healthย and social care,ย theย environment, human rights,ย foodย andย nutrition, finance,ย orย education โ€“ย to ensure that our clientsโ€™ย issues connect with politicians.ย ย

ย

Q: You mentioned the team earlier. What is it about the culture here that you want to preserve or grow?ย

Max:ย Itโ€™sย the blend of insight and impact. We have people here who genuinely understandย the nuts and boltsย of UK and EU politicsย and the policymaking process. I want to ensure we keep that rigor while staying creative in how we deliver resultsย and continuing to support our amazing teams.ย

Whether we are fighting for better social care or navigating sustainability regulations, I want our clients to feel like weย arenโ€™tย justย externalย consultants โ€“ย butย extensions of their own in-house teamsย who areย deeplyย invested inย achievingย meaningfulย results.ย

ย

Q:ย Whatโ€™sย next for you andย Whitehouse?ย

Max:ย Getting to work! We have a lot of exciting new campaigns in the pipeline. My focus is going to be on strengthening our public affairs offering, developing our new business pipeline, supporting our amazing teams, and making sure we continue to deliver tangible wins for our clients. Itโ€™s an exciting time to be in public affairs and strategic communications, and Iโ€™m ready to start this new role!
