ESSNawards 2021 celebrates resilience and innovation of sports and active nutrition industry

The biggest and best from the sports nutrition industry across Europe gathered virtually yesterday once more to celebrate all that the sector has achieved over the past year at the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Awards: the ESSNawards.

Delivered by Whitehouse Communications in partnership with the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA), the ESSNawards gave brands, organisations and ambassadors active in the sports nutrition industry an opportunity to gain recognition for their contributions to the sector. It also brought together key stakeholders to network and exchange ideas about how to overcome future regulatory challenges and growing sustainability demands.

The event included presentations from industry experts including Chris Whitehouse, Chairman and Managing Director of Whitehouse Communications, Dr Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA, Team Jamaica Powerlifter Chloe Whylie, Team GB Wheelchair Rugby player Martin Norris and Terence O’Rorke, Business Development Manager at event sponsor Informed Sport. The ceremony was hosted by Ian Craig, Founder of the Centre for Integrative Sports Nutrition and editor of Functional Sports Nutrition magazine and Shane Starling, nutrition journalist and founder of Stardust Komms.

Dr Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA, said:

“This past year has been yet another one fraught with changes. We celebrated not only as we saw sports venues slowly re-open to both athletes and spectators, but also at the increased uptake in exercise around the globe as limited outdoor time became the only means of both physically and mentally escaping the hardships of lockdowns. The sports and active nutrition sector has shown an incredible resilience to an uncertain market, and its innovation has meant that so many more consumers prioritise their health – we very much deserved this night to celebrate!”

Chris Whitehouse, Chairman of Whitehouse Communications, comments:
“Year on year, the sports and active nutrition industry across Europe has tapped into and driven a shift in consumer mindsets, encouraging more and more people to make a long-term lifestyle change and prioritise their health. Sports nutrition brands not only help athletes on all stages of their exercise journeys perform better, but also create a culture of goal-driven optimism. Well done to this year’s ESSNawards winners, who are paving the way forward in this ever-growing sector.”

Terence O’Rorke, Business Development Manager, Informed Sport, added:
“Informed Sport is again pleased to help bring together the European sports nutrition industry for to recognise the very best work that brands have undertaken in the last year. As the sports nutrition market grows to accommodate the increasing numbers of consumers looking to improve their health and lifestyles, it has never been more important to ensure that new products are safe and compliant – which is where we hope to help all new brands and NPD endeavours.”
