The Department for Education this week launched an initiative to help schools support pupils’ mental health. The Department will work with the Personal Social Health & Economic Education (PSHE) Association to assist schools with ways of teaching pupils about mental health and to banish the stigma which can surround mental health issues. The Department will also provide advice to schools on the benefits and characteristics of good quality counseling, and the different approaches that exist.
Announcing the new strategy, Childcare and Education Minister Sam Gyimah said the strategy would focus on “getting experts to distil what it is that makes for good counselling services in primary and secondary schools – and what the wider benefits can be.”
The announcement is the first step in what the Minister said would be a bigger push from the Department for Education on mental health in the coming months, taking evidence from professionals and young people, buy essays uk.
