Labour to fund NHS through tobacco and mansion tax

Ending speculation over how a Labour Government would divert funds to the NHS, having ruled out tax increases, Labour leader Ed Miliband will today pledge to invest the proceeds of a windfall tax on the profits of UK tobacco companies and a mansion tax on homes worth more than £2m.

In his final part conference speech before next year’s general election, Miliband will commit to halt Tory privatisation of the NHS, integrate health and social care services, guarantee access to a GP within 48 hours and improve mental health services.
