The Independent reports that Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has expressed a “great deal of sympathy” for the idea of charging drunk people for using A&E services, adding that, although the proposal presents some difficulties, people should be made to take responsibility for their actions. The Health Secretary clarified that such a policy would be difficult to implement in cases where people have to be treated as quickly as possible, as well as when it comes to distinguishing between people who end up in A&E units.
