Government Chief Operating Officer resigns from Civil Service

Government Chief Operating Officer and Head of the Cabinet Office Efficiency and Reform Group Stephen Kelly  has announced his resignation from the Civil Service to take up the position of Chief Executive at software multinational Sage Group. In his current role, Kelly was responsible for driving efficiencies through Government and supporting SMEs.

Kelly is to remain in his current position until November 2014. In his statement he said that “After immense consideration, I have decided to return to the private sector as Chief Executive of Sage. I have always been passionate about supporting SMEs, and this role is an excellent opportunity for me to play a crucial role in creating jobs and growth”.

The new position will see a significant pay rise for Stephen Kelly, from his current Government salary of £145,000-£150,000 to a basic annual salary of £790,000.
