The Conservative manifesto is to contain measures to stop Union bosses from holding “rolling” strikes and to ensure that a minimum turnout threshold of 50 per cent of the workforce is reached before a walkout, The Telegraph reports.
There is currently no turnout threshold for strikes, which means disruption caused by strikes can result from the actions of a relatively small proportion of the workforce.
The move comes after Prime Minister David Cameron last week condemned a strike by the National Union of Teachers over pay, pensions and workload.
As part of the Tory plans, illegal picketing will also become a criminal offence.
Frances O’Grady, general secretary of the Trade Union Congress said Cameron is making a “profound mistake” by moving in an increasingly anti-trade union direction.
