State schools are turning out “too many amoral children”

The Chairman of the Independent Schools Association has claimed that state schools are failing to provide pupils with a “moral compass” because of the pressure on teachers to deliver good academic results. Richard Walden has argued that state schools create amoral children because they don’t have time to teach right from wrong. In contrast Walden argued that private schools are turning out ‘well-rounded’ pupils with ‘moral understanding’. However, headteachers’ leaders in the state sector have said Mr Walden’s belief that state schools were failing to teach morality was “blatantly untrue”.
