Private schools ‘abandoning’ A-levels

The Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC) have found that hundreds of leading private schools are preparing to abandon A-levels in favour of alternative exams created for pupils in China, India, Singapore and the United States. The HMC have blamed the Government’s reforms for this move and have also pointed to serious marking problems. Schools are moving to the IA-level which is currently taken by 1,600 schools in 125 countries, with the largest number of entries in India, China, the US, Pakistan, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.
