Grammar schools to prioritise pupils from deprived backgrounds

Over half of Englandโ€™s 164 grammar schools are seeking to rewrite their admissions codes to give priority to pupils from deprived backgrounds. The move has been sparked by Sutton Trust research showing only 2.7% of grammar school places went to pupils eligible for free school meals, a fraction of the 20% rate seen in state schools generally.
