Study claims private schools contribute £11.7 billion each year to British economy

A new study has claimed that private schools contribute £11.7 billion to Britain each year, making them significant for the country’s gross domestic product than the BBC or Liverpool’s economy. Research conducted by the consultancy Oxford Economics found that Britain’s private schools contribute a gross £11.7 billion to annual GDP, support 275,000 jobs and generate £4.7 billion in tax revenue, £173 for every household in Britain. The value of taxpayer savings, from pupils who are entitled to a state school place but do not use it, is another £3.9 billion – equivalent to 590 new free schools a year.
