Lord Baker claims education system is “dysfunctional”

Conservative Peer Lord Baker has claimed that the UK’s education system is “dysfunctional”. The former Education Secretary said that children were not being given the skills needed to succeed and argued that the Government was “letting down a generation”. Lord Baker said that schools, colleges and universities were unable to produce enough young people with vital technical skills.

Gary from PSI: Lord Baker has spent recent years campaigning to establish University Technical Colleges and Chairs the Edge Foundation, which aims to improve vocational education options for pupils. He has been critical of Michael Gove’s reforms claiming that they are based on the Education Secretary’s own educational experience instead of evidence.
