Concern over dementia care

Charities have claimed that thousands of vulnerable dementia patients suffer ‘conveyor belt care’, with some seeing more than 40 different care workers within six months. Experts warned that confused elderly people were being left in fear as councils and agencies sent a succession of strangers into their homes, with the charities saying that the care visits were getting shorter and shorter. A survey by the Alzheimer’s Society found that one in three of those with dementia had received visits from 10 different care workers in the last six months, and one in 10 saw at least 20.
