The Association of School and College Leaders criticise Ofsted

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) have raised concerns about Ofsted. ASCL, which represents headteachers and senior management, has claimed that Ofsted has significant problems with its system of inspection for state schools in England and should stop using inspectors contracted from the private sector. General Secretary Brian Lightman said that the school inspections system has significant problems, including confusion about what Ofsted’s inspectors are looking for, as well as “a culture of fear around inspection which hampers innovation and sensible risk-taking”.
