Record numbers of children will be taught in “all-through” academies, The Telegraph reports.Figures show that the number of combined primary and secondary schools will increase by a quarter over the next two years in response to parental demand.
The trend will see many children enrolled at four and remain in the same school until the end of the sixth-form. In some cases, schools have their own nursery, allowing pupils to start at the age of two or three. Proponents say the system allows pupils to be given specialist subject tuition in the early stages of their education. It is also designed to address the common dip in pupil performance between primary and secondary level when large numbers of children struggle to adapt to a new environment.
