A study by Monitor has worried that an increasing number of NHS foundation trusts are in financial trouble. The regulator found that more than a quarter of the 147 trusts had a deficit, almost twice as many as last year. The study also confirmed that waiting lists had risen significantly, but it said the majority of accident and emergency departments were coping well.
