Increased numbers of young people being treated for serious mental health issues

Thousands of young children are being treated for anxiety, stress and depression, with bullying and a fear of failure said to be among the causes. According to Childrenโ€™s mental health charity YoungMinds 96,000 children aged between five and 10 suffer from an anxiety disorder, while 8,700 are seriously depressed. Overall, more than half a million children and young people up to the age of 16 are affected by a diagnosable mental health disorder. Expert Lucie Russell commented: โ€˜Itโ€™s a sad indictment of the society we live in.โ€™
