The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) have found that there is a lack of evidence to justify additional public spending on childcare.  All three main Westminster parties have made commitments to increase funding for childcare, but the think tank warns that “little is known about the effectiveness” of such spending. Commenting on the IFS Deputy Director Carl Emmerson said: “They seem agreed in promising additional spending on childcare despite a remarkable lack of evidence as to its effectiveness.”
