A report by the British Chamber of Commerce has recommended that lessons in careers should be given to primary school children in order to promote “employability” in schools. The organisation argues that there should be encouragement for schools to set up visits to local businesses and other measures to teach children about the world of work. The report suggests schools being ranked on pupils’ employability instead of just exam result. It also calls for new qualifications in literacy, numeracy, foreign languages and digital skills to replace GCSEs.
