Number of over-90s brought to A&E increasing

The Labour Party have released figures showing that people over the age of 90 are using ambulances 81% more than they were three years ago. Labour says the jump from 300,370 trips in 2012-13 compared to 165,910 in 2009-10 is linked to the cuts in social care budgets, which it says leave older people without the care they need to stay healthy. However, the Government has hit back saying the problem dated back well into Labour’s term in office. Overall, 999 trips to A&Es rose by 11% over the period to just under 4.4 million.
