A team of academics and researchers is being set up by the Welsh Government to give ministers new ideas on how to improve Wales’ public services. The Public Policy Institute for Wales (PPIW) is being launched at a cost of up to £450,000 over three years. It will give Welsh government ministers access to independent experts from Wales, the UK and beyond. Cardiff University has been appointed to run the institute.
Gary from PSI: This idea was first mooted by the First Minister in February 2012 and it will aim to act as a bridge between the Welsh government and the world of research and think tanks. However, it will also certainly lead to the opposition parties claiming that the Welsh Government has run out of ideas.
