Lord Adonis claims that 100 independent schools could join the state sector within 10 years

Labour Peer and former Schools Minister Lord Adonis has claimed that up to 100 independent schools are set to enter the state sector within the next decade. Lord Adonis, President of the Independent Academies Association, said that this was due to the Government’s free schools and academies programme. He noted that the schools would be able to remain in charge of their own affairs but move closer to their original charitable ideals of providing education for poorer pupils.
