Nick Clegg is set to launch a new drive to improve standards of care for people suffering from mental health problems. Recent reports have highlighted hospital beds being reduced and budget cuts for mental health trusts. A poll from the charity, Time To Change, highlights some of the problems faced by patients including that one third of people with mental health problems say they come up against stigma and discrimination on a monthly or weekly basis. The Mental Health Action Plan identifies 25 areas requiring improvement in the area, with the Deputy Prime Minister warning that current attitudes towards mental health problems are “stuck in the dark ages”.
