Labour to force schools to adopt healthy food standards

It’s been reported that a future Labour Government would consider forcing academies and free schools to adopt healthy food standards. Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Education Tristram Hunt said it was important to offer autonomy and to “get the balance right”, but said a Labour government would favour enforcing “basic safeguards and standards”. Hunt also warned that single primary school academies would be “very risky”, and ruled out sending his children to private school, insisting they “will be staying in the state sector”.
