Business Secretary Vince Cable is to announce today that the maximum total fine for those employers who don’t pay the minimum wage will rise from £5,000 to £20,000. Cable has stated that “The message is clear – if you break the law, you will face action.” Plans will also be included to make it easier for these employers to be ‘named and shamed’, however how this will work in practice has not as yet been revealed.
