A new report has found that more than a quarter of European employers are struggling to fill vacancies at the same time as young people face high levels of unemployment. The report from management consulting firm McKinsey warns of a mismatch between young people’s skills and the needs of employers. The report accuses education providers of being “over-optimistic” about work skills. The UK comes out relatively well with only 18% of employers saying that lack of skills among first jobbers is harming their business. In contrast the survey found that in Greece and Italy employers are much more concerned about the skills of young people looking for their first job.
