Former Director of Public Prosecutions crosses a line

The former Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer, is interviewed by the BBC calling for failure to report suspicions of child abuse to be made a criminal offence. I agree entirely with that view, but it is for Parliament to decide on the law. It is for the newly appointed DPP to decide whether, in any particular case, if a prosecution were to be brought the prospect would be โ€œmore likely than notโ€ that there would be a conviction, and whether a prosecution is in the public interest. We should be wary when individuals seek to expand the role and influence of a position beyond that which the Constitution has established. We abandon the principle of the primacy of Parliament at our peril.
