Increase in number of schools rated good in England

Ofsted figures have shown that there has been a 9% increase in the number of schools in England rated good or outstanding. This figure has been described as “higher than ever before” by England’s Chief Inspector of Schools, Sir Michael Wilshaw. However, almost a third of schools inspected between September 2012 and June this year fell into the ‘requires improvement’ category. Two thousand schools are in the new rating of “requires improvement”, which has replaced the older category of “satisfactory”.
