Where’s the NHS going? Whitehouse reports

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 24: An NHS sign at St Thomas's Hospital, A&E department on March 24, 2020 in London. British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced strict lockdown measures urging people to stay at home and only leave the house for basic food shopping, exercise once a day and essential travel to and from work. It’s been a big week for health policy in the UK.

On the day that the Health and Care Bill returned to Parliament for Committee Stage, the government announced their long-awaited plans for the NHS and social care, entitled ‘Build Back Better’, which included plans to introduce a new 1.25 per cent Health and Social Care Levy based on National Insurance contributions. Despite objections to the proposals from opposition MPs and some Tory MPs, Parliament voted 319 to 248 for the Levy, which breaks a key Conservative manifesto pledge.

To digest the events of the last fortnight and look ahead to what is coming up on health policy and NHS reform, the team at Whitehouse present their latest report. This week’s report can be found here.
