Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude has this week announced Government savings for the 2013-14 financial year, totalling £14.3 billion against a 2009-2010 baseline, up from £10 billion (43%) worth of savings made in the 2012-2013 financial year. £5.4 billion of these savings came from improving the Government’s commercial contracts, over £200 million from improving digital services, £3.3 billion by reviewing and reshaping large scale projects and stripping out inefficiencies and waste and £4.7 billion by reducing the size of the Civil Service, now down 16% since 2010.
