Future Nutrition and CytoSport join European sports nutrition trade association

The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) has announced that leading sports nutrition companies CytoSport UK and Future Nutrition have joined its membership.

Future Nutrition, which is based in Ireland, and Cytosport UK join ESSNA’s membership of manufacturers, distributors and suppliers committed to meeting full regulatory compliance, high safety standards and upholding EU regulations on the content and labelling of sports nutrition products. This follows Glanbia Performance Nutrition and PhD Nutrition joining ESSNA in recent weeks.

These new members mark a further expansion of ESSNA, as it continues its development into a formal trade association representing many major EU sports nutrition brands. This comes at a crucial time for the sector, as the European Commission begins works on a report on the sports nutrition industry that will either endorse the recent liberalisation of the rules around sports nutrition products or recommend new legislation.

Dr Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA, said:

“We are thrilled that both of these widely respected organisations have decided to join ESSNA. Our growing membership shows the effect our work is having and demonstrates how ESSNA is, now more than ever, seen as the industry’s voice. Engagement with policy-makers under one industry banner has never been more important and ESSNA’s expansion underlines the fact that many brands recognise this.”

“We hope that others will follow this example and join our efforts to ensure that companies across Europe are complying with the regulations put in place to ensure the safety of consumers.”

Steve Norris, UK General Manager at Cytosport said:

“We are delighted to have joined ESSNA whose reputation as the voice of the sports nutrition industry is impressive and ever growing. As the leading sports nutrition company in the United States, CytoSport now seeks to develop a significant and credible presence in the UK and EU, and our ESSNA membership is a fundamental part of this.”

Siobhan Donnelly, Sales and Marketing Director at Future Nutrition said:

“Future Nutrition, as part of the J Donohoe Group, has been involved in responsible manufacturing since 1876 and was a founder member of the Irish drinks industry body in 1928. As a high-quality manufacturer of supplements in liquids and powders, we are delighted to become members of ESSNA and to be supporting responsible and regulatory compliant sports supplement production in Europe.  Similarly, we look forward to working with other members from a manufacturing and networking perspective.”
