All-Party Parliamentary Media Group: Leading thought-provoking conversations in the world of media

Creative Industries, media and technology

The All-Party Parliamentary Media Group (APPMG) is Parliament’s cross-party forum for discussing public policy affecting the media sector, bringing together MPs, peers, industry figures, regulators and government ministers. Whitehouse has provided the Group’s secretariat since its outset, helping establish it as the pre-eminent forum in Parliament for media policy discussion.

The challenge

An all-party group’s credibility depends on its impartiality – drawing consistent engagement from politicians across parties and from an industry made up of competing interests. The Media APPG needed a secretariat capable of maintaining that standing as the leading forum for media policy discussion in Parliament.

Our approach

Whitehouse has provided the Group with an efficient, professional secretariat, completely impartial to party political considerations and to interests within the industry. This has included organising a regular programme of meetings and policy breakfasts, as well as an annual reception addressed by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The outcome

The Media Group is now acknowledged as a leading forum for discussion in Parliament, sponsored by several of the media sector’s key players. Its work also gave rise to the now-independent Westminster Media Forum, which runs regular keynote national seminars on major developments in media policy.

In Their Words

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Media is an efficiently-run and successful organisation, which provides a critical interface between parliament, the media sector and key industry stakeholders. It makes a valuable contribution to raising the quality of debate on media policy in Parliament and is greatly valued both by ministers and industry.

Chair of the Media APPG
